You would be suprised what has vitamin k! Of course, most people know that green leafy vegetables have large amounts of vitamin k, but I have found quite a few others. I'm not sure how long you have been taking coumadin, or how often you get your levels checked, but I have also found a list of things that can change you INR levels.

Vitamin K
************
Broccoli, Cabage, Cauliflower, Beans, Spinach, Kale, Greens, Dark lettuce (iceburg does have some, but not in large amounts), Most vegetables that are green in colour, and some that aren't do contain large amounts. Cauliflower is white, but it does grow with large green leaves. Here's the suprises: Bananas, Grapefruit, Mayonaise, Most cooking oils, I am pretty sure olive oil has less. I have heard diffrent stories about cranberries.

INR Levels
*************
Menthol cough drops, caffeine, grapefruit, cranberries (once again, not sure!) Warfarin sodium (the generic version of coumadin). Off the top of my head, I can't think of any more right now.

I have FVL, so I am on coumadin for life. I do a lot of research on foods and what not, to try to keep as healthy a diet as possible. Most physicians allow you to eat all of these foods, as long as it is in moderation, and you eat the same amount every day. For example, I'll have some spinach pie for supper one day, and the next have some broccoli or a salad. You may want to talk with your doctor before doing this though. I heard of a website, but have yet to look at it. It is called coumadincookbook.com. I can only imagine it has wonderful recipes for people like you and I.

In case you don't know what an INR level is, that is the same thing as PT, Protime, or prothrombine. Where they check to see how fast your blood clots. I only get my blood drawn once a month, but in the beginning, it was every day! You will want to avoid those things that can make the levels vary, that way your dosage doesn't get switched unnescarily.

I'm not sure if you know about this, but becasue you are taking coumadin you should carry something with you at all times that says so. They make various types of jewelry that you can wear. This is something I strongly reccomend, that way if anything ever happens, they will know how to better help you.

Nope. But if they are synthetic (which most likely is the case) you may as well flush 'em down the toilet, as that's effectively what you are doing: fertilising the sewage system. The human body cannot process synthetics.

Ummmm.... I'm pretty sure you can take vitamins with anything, anytime. They're not exactly "dangerous to mix" pills. LOL. Get some sleep, you'll be fine in the morning.
